We asked Durassie a few questions – this is what he had to say…

Who are you and what do you do?
I am a physical performer with an orientation towards movement, motion capture, screen work and voice over.

Tell us a little bit about your movement & performance passions:
I have always been much more confident in expressing myself through my physicality. It tends to come more free flowing than speech. Saying that, I do, however see myself as more of a screen-oriented Actor, as I tend to enjoy working in film more so than theatre. Through movement I also ended up doing a brief stint in fashion, working for a few British and global brands.

Tell us a little bit about your experience with @shapesinmotion
(By a happy coincidence), I stumbled upon Shapes in Motion’s website back in 2015, when googling Physical Theatre and movement-based workshops. From reading about @sarah_perry_movement field of work, and the type of work she specialises in, I felt like I had stumbled upon exactly what I was looking for. My first workshop was with a facilitator from @geckotheatre and further on, I was introduced to Mocap workshops. At that time, I’d only loosely heard of Mocap, so it was venturing into completely new territory for me…

What are you currently working on? …

What an important conversation! How does it feel a What an important conversation! How does it feel as a creative individual to wear many creative hats? It’s an absolute joy to be creatively multi skilled; you may be an actor, dancer, puppeteer, choreographer, writer, movement director - all at the same time... not to mention juggling life, parenthood, family, non creative jobs & so much more … phew, it can be exhausting.

What brings us joy, also brings with it it’s own challenges. If we are focussed on so many different strands, are we truly excelling at any? How can we create an ideal balance?

How do we transition & rebound from one role to the next, are we taking on too much? How do we present to the world & industry with clarity our mult-skills without sounding like a Jack of all trades & Master of none? So much to think about.

Thank you to ALL who attended this morning’s online chat discussing such. Your insights, shared experiences and suggestions were invaluable, thank you to @phoebe_l_hyder our key speaker sharing her multi hat wearing experiences & to @sarah_perry_movement for hosting & chipping in too.

What were your takeaways? It would be great to hear your thoughts.

Have an amazing weekend, keep well, keep moving. Remember, sometimes letting go of a hat that no longer serves you can be quite liberating & freeing. Food for thought. 🎩
