How do you approach a role? What physical choices do you research and consider when building a character? Movement Director & Movement Coach Sarah Perry will lead the workshop focusing primarily on the body and movement as a tool for performance and character embodiment. We shall explore character research, psychology & emotion and text as well as a characters physicality; considering both the inside-out and outside- in creative processes.
As a group we will discuss and physically explore concepts inspired by Rudolph Laban: Laban Movement analysis, Stanislavski, Choreology, Text and Language, Improvisation and Play. We will look at things like: how characters walk, behave, gesture; how to work with injuries & conditions, how to manifest characters’ thoughts and feelings through the body and generally how to use our bodies to communicate more effectively.
Please bring along a memorised 1-minute monologue and character to work with.
Through this workshop, you will gain a richer understanding of how your body and physicality can be used to its full potential, adding to your strengths as an actor. No prior movement experience required. This workshop is aimed at actors and would also be be useful for movement practitioners wanting to work with actors also.
