In this workshop we shall look at character & creature embodiment taking inspiration from the movements and behaviourisms of four key primates: Gorillas, Gibbons, Chimpanzees & Orangutans. Sarah has been working closely with ZSL, Zoologists and Primate specialists to research and develop a series of workshops especially for the performance industry. This workshop is open to Actors, Dancers, Animators, MoCap Performers, Physical Performers and all who are interested in creature studies as a source of inspiration for character & performance. We will look at the specific habits, behaviourisms, social interactions, physical attributes and dynamic qualities of all four primates, we shall also consider breath patterns and vocalisations and how these interplay with movement and expression. As we explore, play and discover you will have the opportunity to apply your learnings to your specific craft & interests: whether it be creating a character, creating a creature, exploring how the learnings of the day can inspire choreography, dance, physical transformations …
We shall also discuss how we need to adapt some of these qualities to fit our bi-pedal human form, discussing what we could do with regards to special and visual effects to assist a more authentic performance particularly within the MoCap industry: Film, TV, Games and Animation.

A very exciting project TBA in 2024 for Warner Bros/Universal, ‘Burning Girls’ a new 6 part TV drama for Paramount + released late 2023. ‘In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats’ a VR cinematic experience with East City Films, currently on tour worldwide. Other credits include: ‘His Dark Materials’ season 3 for BBC/Bad Wolf. ‘Dream’ a Live Motion Capture/Online Virtual Production for The Royal Shakespeare Company and ‘A Discovery of Witches’ Season 2 & 3 for Bad Wolf/Sky One. Movement Coach on Jupiter Ascending directed by The Wachowskis and on Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by James Gunn. Sarah is frequently called in to work with various renowned VFX companies to assist their animation teams working on various projects, productions and characters and has worked with character animators working on feature films that have included; The Jungle Book, Guardians of the Galaxy, World War Z, John Carter, Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of The Dawn Treader – exploring character & creature embodiment.
