Acting and Character Performance for Animators
Observation • Behaviour • Character • Performance
with
Sarah Perry
28th JUNE 2026
10-5pm | Sadler’s Wells, London
Sarah Perry helps animators create believable, nuanced and emotionally truthful character performances through observation, behaviour and acting principles.
The most memorable animated performances are often shaped not just by what a character does, but by how they think, feel and behave while doing it. Join us for a practical and engaging workshop designed to help you move beyond animating actions and towards animating behaviour.
Through a blend of observation, acting principles, movement exploration and character analysis, you'll develop a deeper understanding of how thought, intention, attention and physical behaviour contribute to compelling animated performances.
Puppetry & Devising Workshop
with
Phoebe Hyder
26th JUNE 2026
10-1pm | Sadler’s Wells, London
Join puppeteer and puppetry director Phoebe Hyder for a practical and creative three-hour workshop exploring the fundamentals of puppetry and the power of non-verbal storytelling.
The session will begin with an introduction to core puppetry principles, focusing on breath, weight, focus, and presence. Through hands-on exercises, participants will develop a deeper understanding of how to bring a puppet to life and create believable performance through movement and attention.
In the second half of the workshop, participants will use puppets as tools for devising, creating and exploring non-verbal stories. Together we will investigate the relationship between performer and puppet, examining how an external character can unlock new approaches to storytelling, character development, and theatrical imagination. Expect plenty of time working directly with puppets, experimenting, collaborating, and generating material.
A Workshop

Tanztheater

What the text does not say
26th JULY 2026
2-5pm | Sadler’s Wells, London
In this three‑hour workshop we will explore the relationship between text and movement. In Tanztheater we rarely use dialogue, at least not in the traditional sense, but many movements are generated from text‑based questions, prompts, and tasks. Tanztheater has therefore always had a strong connection between movement and words.
Recently I have been exploring new ways of merging dance and theatre. Together with Ami Nagano, I am currently preparing a new Tanz & Theatre version of Ionesco’s Rhinoceros. As part of this research, a new approach emerged that refined my understanding of how text and movement can relate to one another.
